Net income is monthly wages-rent. That's why Mississippi and Alabama are poverty pockets.

NYC makes money on financial services, not manufacturing or low wage retail.

@lajsmith_ The Bronx, at $42billion, has a bigger GDP than WV or KY. Taxes are meaningless to the oligarchs, who pay less taxes than Walmart workers. That's why they enjoy NYC, which has a $2.7trillion GDP, bigger than most countries.
7
@reheyesd8666 Small rural towns are also impacted by inflation. Walmart does not increase the minimum wage.
5
@mrxcer2461 To the world, it is. Why pay $800 to live in a ghetto or trailer park? Even in Camden, NJ, the poorest city in America, rent$ start, at $700. Easier to scam, than chase poverty. Life is short!
3
@jonjo2598 Why do these poverty pocket states rank at the bottom of the US in poverty, education, life expectancy, and healthcare? Poor communities in Alabama have open sewers.
2
@jonjo2598 Data for education, poverty, and life expectancy are facts, not anecdotes. Low skill Mcjobs are being automated, and have no future. Quality of life, and lifestyle are more as ttractive to the affluent than chasing poverty .
2
@fullmetaltheorist In Detroit and Newark you can buy lots for $1, but still need to pay thousands in property taxes.

No more crowded streets, and subways:)

@jerrypeukert5732 What wealth do the poverty pocket statesproduce? AL, WV, MS, LA AR depend on subsidies from states with parasitic industries. Weapons are the main US export.
1
@cristianion2056 Taxes apply to wage slaves. The rich, investors, offshore corporates, Trumps, and Bezos are worth $billions, but pay little or no taxes.
1
WV, and MS lost population and congressional seats. So much for low rent, and low wages...
1
@euenfheiejrj Not many McJobs in low-cost rural towns pay $60k.
1
@miracleman8022 Then roll up in WV. They are cheaper, but had the biggest population decline (wonder why?). The dystopian economy is the same in Chicagoland, Philly, LA Skid Row,and every major US city. All have high rents, homelessness, drug addiction, and hordes of uneducated, unemployed, stupid young males with rap sheets.
1
@euenfheiejrj Every major downtown has renters paying 40-50% of their income on rent. If you make $65k, you can afford a $3,000 NYC studio (set up a home business, and deduct 50% of your rent). Invest in Bitcoin. You will never get rich by saving money. It's just chasing poverty.
1
C S Nobody is moving to WV, LA, AL, or MS, even for low taxes, cheap trailer parks, and lots of hunting and fishing.
1
@supertev 60k is low income in DC or SF:(
1
@fullmetaltheorist Before does that house come with clean running water, flush toilets, electricity, and high-speed Internet?
1
@easyenetwork2023 Jackson MS has no clean drinking water, or garbage collection.

@TheSmartLawyer I live in NYC. Wall Street generates $trillions in GDP, while hospitality and tourism are struggling. Hotels are housing homeless, mentally ill, and addicts. If the parasitic tourism industry was so great, tourist-dependant countries and cities would be booming.
