  8. To get to low Earth orbit you need around 8000 m/s of ∆v, which, considering they had to take 100 tonnes of payload there takes a colossal rocket. Getting to lunar orbit requires only 1000 and because they only have to get a few tonnes there and there's no atmosphere, a small spacecraft is easily enough
