  1. I live in central NC and I'll be travelling all the way to my back yard for the eclipse. We're only getting 85% coverage here, but I drove to eastern TN for the 2017 eclipse and that experience was enough to make me stay tf home for any future eclipses. Too many people, too many cars, too much dumb.

  2. Historically, "noon" is when the sun is at its highest point in the sky. That should be at or about 12:00, not 1:00. Other than that little detail, the time on the clock is completely arbitrary. If you need or want to take advantage of the earlier sunrise, get up earlier. The best solution would be for everyone to use UTC, then it would be the same time for everyone, and you could get up with the sun if that's what you want to do. Having said that, permanent daylight time is still better than switching back and forth.

The thing with most public office, but especially true of the position of President, is that 99% of the people who would do well in the position don't want it, and the ones who want it badly enough to get it, should be no means be allowed near it. Douglas Adams wrote something similar in HHGTTG. You have to have a certain character type to even want to be in a position like that, and people with that character type are not the type of people you want running a country, especially a powerful one.
