Everyone around the world really really needs to understand something: As a very strict rule among almost ALL nations; When you step foot in a foreign country you are 100% liable and accountable to their laws. Do NOT keep believing your Embassy somehow gets you out of this. The ONLY time an Embassy has ANYTHING to do with any kind of crimes, arrests, sentencing etc is IF the incident has some NATIONAL relevance. Arrested for 'spying' as an example. Arrested as a 'hostage' in negotiations. People really REALLY need to get this. Really start understanding how that works. in my experience, OLDER Americans can misbelieve that somehow they are a 'diplomat' or 'embassy property' and if the police (or whoever) wants to deal with them WELL let's phone the US embassy. NO. No, that is NOT how it works. Now, younger Chinese Mainlanders are the new 'worst' with this. They really do walk around in foreigner countries with the misbelief that actually the countries laws are NOT FOR THEM s they are like Diplomats. They are special envoys, as if having 'diplomatic immunity' and again that is NOT HOW IT WORKS.
