Agree completely— the short form that LV is captured here likely is intended as bullet points only. The Chinese government is relentless in pursuing bloat, incipient financialization (Jack Ma is the only the most visible example of a would be oligarch who wanted to “buy” power) — after letting real estate grow out of control.

Objective, astute and well-produced. Subscribed.

@ZweiZwolf he’s come back from a trip to China at the end of last year — and perhaps is slightly more realistic. He says “cooperation is always subordinate to competition” — almost a quote from certain passages in the OT.

Listen, dont look. Support your local community college.

More accurately: China emerges from defense to offense, US declines from offense to defense.

@broadbrook108 I know you can’t help it. You have our sympathy and best wishes.

@rohans1174 you’re quite incorrect. This has not been confirmed by Apple although it stated that the small Indian market for iPhones could be supplied indigenously. The low yield of Indian manufacturing is an anathema to a high performance company like Apple.

@hyhhy JM is a well known pundit so any ambition he has at his age would better serve his posthumous legacy. He’s an old school “Pax Americana” advocate — who now realizes it’s a bit too late to respond to China in any substantive way — except for one exclusion. Until the veil of his “grand old man persona” is just one message: war, sooner better than later, with China. He has it both ways: (1) to be a wise senior pundit; and 2) to pass the baton of militarism to the younger generation (eg Rubio and the Chinahawks II (to be distinguished from Chinahawks I in Trump’s first term) which will happily start wars. A prior generation termed these non-serving politicians “chicken hawks”. JM can sit by comfortably by and disavow any war — but his coded message can’t be missed by DC insiders… “better confrontation than cooperation”.

Zakaria is a publicist/journalist who doesn’t spend much time looking at serious issue with appropriate depth. We accept him for who he is, and this interview is informative.
