  2. There are many, many ways for an arrogant club like NATO to fail. Certainly the most spectacular (and most video worthy) would be a direct military confrontation between NATO/US and China. The result might surprise. The great intellectual Nassim Taleb has said that if there had been earlier, smaller financial collapses before 2008 it would have prevented the complete collapses of Lehman, Bear Stearns, Merrill Lynch etc and the reign of terror which followed (and has not ended). So some kind of near term military confrontation between NATO/US and China — terrifying as it may sound — could prove healthier in the long run.
