  1.  @Bialy_1  If the charging base is stationary or semi-Stationary, you can have a much larger solar array. You’re right that distant might be a problem. Perhaps the battery packs themselves could have mobility and follow after the exploring unit and return to base for recharging. Anyway, these sorts of robots will no doubt be useful for exploring Mars, but that doesn’t mean they will replace other types.

  2.  @stuartgray5877  I have a friend that worked at JPL, although not on this mission. Do you know Dave Doody? He’s retired now. One of his hobbies is astronomy and he sometimes takes his telescope to Old Town Pasadena to give people a look at planets or whatever. “Public Outreach”. He also taught classes on spacecraft design at Art Center.
