Thanks. I did watch the video first! Surprisingly, I didn’t know this. I had assumed the design was primarily motivated by the advantages of simultaneous landing and launching, a limitation highlighted by the terrible defeat of the IJN carriers at Midway. While I now don’t doubt this was also a consideration, the video’s explanation for the primary reason makes more sense.
