Probably because they have evidence that the victims didn’t commit the crime, like they were at work at the time it took place or whatnot.

It’s unusual for such a lengthy delay. But there was one trial that ended in a mistrial. You have to restart the clock. The delays might be the fault of the prosecution, and not the judge, so your criticism of the judicial system (judicial system is the system of courts and judges) might be misplaced. While judges have a certain amount of discretion, they also have to follow rules. When they depart from those rules, they open up the possibility of having their decisions overturned. What was the basis of the mistrial and who called it and why? What I’m saying is that if you want to change things, you really need to understand the nature of the problem. Your reaction of outrage is understandable; justice delayed is justice denied, as the saying goes. If you are looking for more than just an outlet of your displeasure, look deeper into how this could happen, by what process was the accused able to delay the trial?

It’s really not, but OK. It’s irrelevant to a finding of guilt or evidence. You want to find justification that is apparently not there. Presumably the investigation found evidence that the brothers didn’t commit the crime. Maybe they were at work. Maybe it’s proven that they were far away, with witnesses. What you seem to want to do is blame the victims.

The brothers got the death penalty for a crime they didn’t commit. A vigilante acted as judge, judy, and executioner, and that vigilante is on trial. And yes, I ripped off the Judge Judy bit from Hot Fuzz.
