  1.  AA Kostic  Third world is Cold War political nomenclature meaning unaligned. Western democracies and their allies are First world, Communist Bloc countries are Second world. It has nothing to do with economic development. If you want to say “economically developing, say “developing nation”. If you want to say economically developed, say “developed”. If you want to say economically stagnant and poor, say “undeveloped”. The 1st/2nd/3rd world schema is obsolete. Besides which, it is not at all true that the Global South is aligned with Russia. Worldwide, there are five nations that openly support Russia (the usual suspects), 30 or so staying neutral, and almost 200 opposed Russia’s invasion.

  2. His logic is that he denies that Ukraine is an independent country. According to the Kremlin, Ukraine is Russia’s property. So this isn’t an invasion, it’s an internal matter.

  3. There is a thieves’ logic to his criminal statements. You just deny the existence of a sovereign country, claim the territory is yours, and then you’re not invading. It’s an internal security matter, not an act of aggressive war.

  4. At least they had an ideology back then, as terrible as it was. Putin has taken the corruption and criminality of the Soviet Union and made sure it was unhindered by high flown ideals. Putin’s “ideology” changes from day to day to suit whatever his criminal activities need at that moment. It’s pure “might makes right”.
