  1. When you first come into Mexico and get your tourist permiso, request 180 days—the maximum. Keep track of your exit date, and don’t make the mistake of thinking it’s 6 months! You’re supposed to surrender the permiso as you leave, but I’m not sure how strict they are about this, especially if you’re flying.
