@Tatar_Piano Will 2024 finally be the year of Linux taking over the Desktop?

Anyone remember when Motorola and IBM were cpu manufacturers? (Ironically, they developed and sold RISC architecture silicon.) Giants like Intel can fall.

Sure they will, if they want less performant hardware.

This isn’t an ecosystem competition question. Qualcomm isn’t competing with Apple’s ecosystem because it’s not in that business. It’s in the chip business, and to sell more product it needs to compete with Apple Silicon. It’s up to Qualcomm’s customers to compete with Apple’s products, if that’s what their business is.

Microsoft might no longer be the 800 pound gorilla, but it’s still a 500 pound gorilla, so Qualcomm likely has been working with them wrt hardware optimizations. If they want to sell processors, they’d be stupid not to.

They’ve got NPU cores, if that’s what you’re asking.

Microsoft is as honest as the day is long. In December.

@terrydaktyllus1320 Neither Apple nor Microsoft base their businesses on abuse of privacy and data larceny. They’re not in the same boat as Google. They’re not even in the same ocean. Conflating the three companies is a misdirect from the fact that our nascent surveillance is based on Open Software.

Well, however they’re billing it, Qualcomm isn’t leapfrogging Apple. They’re catching up—and let’s give them full credit for that. The margin is narrower. Also, this is going to open up the technology for sectors where Apple doesn’t directly compete, areas outside of general computing. So whether or not Qualcomm beats Apple isn’t as important as the fact that they’re in the performance ballpark. All sorts of industries will benefit from these developments, industries in which Apple has no interest.

@ThePowerLover he unzipped his pants and there he was in his hand.

I’m sure AMD and Intel will land on their feet like chip giants Motorola and IBM.
