No, not everyone wants a dragon to slay, nor is everyone looking for excuses. Many just want equal treatment, basic respect, and human dignity. They want the freedom to live unmolested by unfounded prejudice. Sadly, equality feels like oppression to the privileged. Some only care about their own freedom, and think nothing of abridging the freedom of others. To address specifically the defensiveness of built-in white supremacy, I’ve seen this on both the left and the right. It’s not just the right wing that tries to subordinate non-whites.
