@TheLumberjack1987 NO TAG BACKS

I’d say there’s a big difference, though. Before February 2022, Canada, U.S., and UK had many uniformed trainers and advisers in Ukraine. They were pulled out before the shooting started. Possibly a handful of special forces remained. Training continues outside of Ukraine, but the Ukraine supporting coalition is avoiding putting regular military boots on the ground. With regards to the supposed 97 special forces soldiers inside of Ukraine, that might be total number that have been rotated in and out, but I doubt they have all been present simultaneously. That’s IF they are in fact there at all.

He does in fact speak Arabic. The rest of your comment sounds like nonsense stereotyping. Do you also say that Jewish culture is tribal culture, based on respect and fear? Probably you don’t.
1
@keepyourbilsteins I did not see that coming.

@SleeperService994 Interesting Trivia: The band Steely Dan is named after a dilemma.

If the Atlantic Ocean thinks it can take over the Pacific Ocean, it’s got another think coming. 😂

Because it’s a problem when a state exceeds its authority. Texas doesn’t have jurisdiction over international borders and it’s usurping (and interfering with) the Federal government.

Word has come down from Mar a lago to block the resolution. Every time a democrat is in the White House, there is a terrible hair-on-fire border crisis that is on the verge of destroying our country. It’s a useful campaign issue for Republicans, and if they ever solved the broken immigration system they would lose that useful tool. It was apparently such a pressing issue that Republicans in Congress demanded that they wouldn’t pass Ukraine aid legislation unless it was tied to action on the border. I’m an ex-Republican independent, and there is no shortage of evidence why leaving the GOP was the right decision.

I had to pause the video to remind everyone that Michael Tracy is the “journalist” who was knocked flat on his ass by Maxine Waters. 80 year old Maxine Waters. Tracy was shoving a mic in her face and she pushed his arm away. Apparently the thought he drew the foul and immediately flopped, but since they weren’t playing basketball, there was no referee to call the foul and nowhere for M. Tracey to take his free throws. Journalists get things wrong all the time, especially when they get out of their normal beat. So non-military reporters call the wrong things tanks. But it takes a cringe journalist like Tracey to call out the military as he did, accusing them of meaningless obfuscation of categories of military vehicles. If you ever want an example of an imbecile thinking that his ignorance is equal to another’s expertise, Tracey is it.

@RyanMcBethProgramming That was a mess, but I figured it was either an accident or something. It was only up for a short period and you made it private. Patience pays off, now I get to watch the finished product. Thanks, Ryan!

He used Venmo. At least with a Gofundme, potential victims can see if he reached his $3500 goal, but with Venmo he can keep up the grift and rake in the cash. Another reason he wouldn’t want to use Gofundme is that they hold on to the money for a while, possibly long enough for this sort of fraud to be uncovered. If I wanted to engage in a quick scam and get my ill gotten money before anyone was the wiser, I’d use a cash transfer app rather than a fundraising one.

I really liked your presentation, but I feel you glossed over or omitted some facts. It’s understandable given the format and not wanting to get lost in the weeds. You chose to err on the side of parsimony and I can accept that. Just the same, I wrote a comment covering what I think are important details that provide greater context on the politics of the Civil War. I admit that some parts are far out of scope of your topic. I hope you’ll read it and comment (once you’ve completed your move 😅). To repeat, I did enjoy the video very much. Please consider the other comment to be supplementary to the video, and not a criticism.

@amazin7006 not for profit colleges don’t have shareholders. Columbia University or UTA are not for profit. No one gets paid a dividend and shares aren’t bought and sold on Wall Street. Private universities do have endowment funds, however. They operate on the interest from the endowment, and they invest the endowment in a portfolio of assets, some of which are stocks and bonds. There are private, for profit schools that do have owners and/or shareholders. Most of them suck and don’t deliver what they promise. In many cases the credit you earn can’t be transferred to another school. The only time you might see a protest at a for-profit is when students’ degrees are not accepted as valid.

The bill is dead. The house speaker and the senate minority leader have said it won’t pass because it would give Biden a win. And this is after they tied Ukraine aid to the bill. Putin rejoices in the GOP.

When they realize they’re marching under the banner of a rat’s anus.

Let me guess. “If at first you don’t secede, try and try again”.

Wow, just had a comment deleted, maybe for including a spelled out non link? Anyway, it was a suggestion for novices to visit Schneier Facts (humor), Bruce Schneier’s real blog, Schneier on Security, and Security researcher “The Grugq” who has a presence on Twitter and Medium. Hth

@jamesgarner327 They’re not so much training the new guys as trying to determine which ones are lucky and which ones have bad luck.

@GeistView if you wouldn’t jump without it, why would you get on a plane without it?

@whousa642 if there ever was an Ivan on YouTube, you are it.

@lucashenry6281 Stand off munitions, my friend. Ship to ship and ship to shore communications in a language the PLA and PLAN can understand.

There’s a difference between normal ignorance and the special cringey ignorance that people like M. Tracey push out like logs of shitty opinion. Not everyone is into military vehicles, military history, or is a member of the military. If people outside our world are ignorant about some aspects of it, so what? If a reporter mistakes a photo of an IFV for a MBT, we can forgive them if military affairs isn’t their normal beat. M. Tracey wrote an article saying that his ignorant opinion is actually correct, and it’s the experts who are wrong. Do you see the special imbecility on display here? He’s not the only one tearing down expertise while boosting ignorance, but he’s (AFAIK) the only one who was knocked on his ass by an 80 year old woman when he was trying to block her forward progress. If you are ever picking teams for flag football or full contact journalism, don’t pick Michael Tracey.

@kreb7 The conservatives won back parliament and Churchill became PM a second time. I wonder, was this because of the Cold War becoming a major issue? Or were people reacting to “too much socialism” from Atlee? (It should be noted that Atlee was one of the early architects of the West’s response to Soviet aggression. He and Truman agreed on a policy of “containment” that defined the general approach.) I’m not an expert on UK politics, nor do I know much about Churchill’s second time around. AFAIK, Churchill didn’t reverse Labor Party reforms, or not many. AFAIK, that didn’t happen until Thatcher was PM.

What about the Netherlands? They’re also really big on Orange. They even named one of their historical figures William of Orange. What’s with this Orange craze?
1
@lovebug6822 You do realize that Biden must have congressional approval to do anything, and that both the Republican Speaker of The House and the Senate Minority Leader have said they would block approval because it would hurt Trump’s election campaign. And this is after Republicans successfully tied aid to Ukraine to resolving the border crisis.
1
@macmedic892 Venmo. He’s not fund raising, he wants cash transfers. If he went through GFM, they hold the cash for a period of time, possibly long enough for his scam to unravel. If he went through GFM, how much was donated could be tracked and how close he was to meeting his goals. With Venmo, he could be far above his stated goal and still accepting donations from victims. There’s no way to tell.

I also imagine they’d be an inner ring defense for anything that gets past the outer rings. I thought about barrage balloons during the first year of the war, when Ukrainian civilian infrastructure and the power grid was being targeted. I figured that Ukraine already had people smarter and more qualified than I am that had considered barrage balloons as a solution. I also had more far fetched ideas that no one would have seriously considered (anti drone drones armed with tennis rackets). The idea might indeed be viable, but I think it’s a sign that Russian air defense is spread thin. They have more critical infrastructure than they have the capability to defend it. It’s a solution born of desperation.

It’s used for screening and reconnaissance operations, i.e., stopping the enemy from seeing what you’re doing and seeing what the enemy is doing.

I’m pretty sure that “Drones! Drones! Drones!” was the title of Mötley Crüe’s 4th album.
1
They aren’t trying to link aid to Ukraine to the border crisis, they HAVE linked it. And now that aid to Ukraine is contingent on solving the border crisis, the Republican controlled house leadership has confirmed they’ll kill any legislation currently being negotiated. It’s truly despicable. It’s hard for me to believe this is the same GOP to which I was registered for 25 years.
1
@FlightRecorder1 I’m really into this scope. You probably haven’t heard of it.
1
Actually, if the death and damage was caused inadvertently by a Ukrainian SAM, we could breathe a bit easier. Russia would still be responsible, but there wouldn’t be any question about Russia’s intent and whether there would be or should be an Article 5 response.
1
@donixion4368 I think we are in agreement. I do expect we will see some sort of response once Russia has “clarified” things.
1
I’d rather be beatniki.

Can you name a decade that didn’t see the release of war movies? Was there a decade with significantly fewer war movies than the 2000s? Maybe you were noticing war movies more, but I don’t think you have any proof that there were more war movies in that decade, or that WWII movies were designed to promote the Great War on Terror. Maybe you’re thinking of the TV series Band of Brothers, which came out in 2001? Yes, September 9th, 2001. See, Tom Hanks, the executive producer new about the attack on the WTC ahead of time, and created the show to help shape opinion before the attacks occurred. Sure. That’s the ticket. Have you met my wife . . . . Morgan Fairchild?

A mass grave has been found at Izyum, indicating more Russian war crimes. If these penal recruits are murderous sociopaths, they’ll fit right into the Russian military.
1
@Peter09876- there’s monetizing and then there’s “monetizing” (begging for untracked cash donations via Venmo).
1
@alechorn1109 We can speculate, but the truth is that the criteria and the algorithm are both hidden from the public. Social media sites that are providing us with these public squares for information and debate all resist transparency and they seem to favor bad actors and purveyors of disinformation.

99 Red Balloons would be somewhat ironic.
1
@comfortablynumb9342 Why go to all that trouble? Using the latest AI technology, the black bar can be faked to a high degree of realism, fooling experts 99 times out of 100. The days of obviously fake photoshop bars are far behind us.

Is “working the shaft” an exercise of hard power?

Look again. I think it’s just plastic or cloth hung up on the tree. However, even if it was a white flag of surrender, you ask a good question to which there is a good answer. If the tank commander does not see the surrender because of limited visibility (the tank is buttoned up, there’s a lot of smoke and dust being kicked up, etc.), it’s not a war crime. It’s only a war crime to intentionally shoot at actively surrendering soldiers. If some are surrendering while the ones next to them continue to fight, you aren’t expected to distinguish between them during the heat of battle. Let god sort it out. (If you’re a pantheist, then let god sort out which god should sort it out.) Here’s the thing about the cloth by the tree: even from the superior overhead view from the drone, it’s not completely clear if it’s a surrender flag. For all we know, it’s Putin’s diaper. We cannot expect anyone in a tank with the hatches closed to see clearly what we cannot see clearly from our superior viewpoint. There’s one other thing that makes me doubt it was surrender. Who the hell is going to jump out of the trench to wave a white flag while being fired on by a tank from 20’ or 30’ away? I think I’d be too busy trying to hide under the mud at the bottom of the trench. Remember how there was a lone soldier scrambling back to warn the others before the tanks crossed into the field? That was the time to prepare the white flag and come out with your hands up. Those Russian boys had a chance to surrender before the shooting started. There’s no time outs in the middle of battle.
1
He was telling the black masked attackers that they should leave. Fair warning that they should pack their bags and go back to where they came from (if they’re outside agitators). This tells me that KFOR isn’t going to passively wait for a repeat. They’re going to find the men who attacked their soldiers and pick them up one by one. It’s a message to those that sent them that they’re already implicated or soon will be.

@RyanMcBethProgramming There’s certainly no shortage of people making bad relationship decisions, I mean opting for learning experiences.
1
@SlavicCelery What’s a “deaf argument”? Is that an army phrase?
1
That could be important if reconnaissance satellites totally stopped working. C’mon Chet. Use your g.d. noodle.

@Handyman.300 When was it ever a good idea to mismatch tires?

The He2 molecule is only stable as a liquid. There are no gaseous Helium molecules. But that said, yes, a diatomic helium molecule (He2) is larger than a diatomic hydrogen molecule (H2). It has 4 protons and 4 neutrons, vs the 2 protons of a diatomic hydrogen molecule. Did you not ever learn about basic chemistry? Or do you doubt the existence of atoms and molecules?
1
@stevenroshni1228 Which means he doesn’t urgently need you to Venmo him the money, as he is begging you to do. There’s so many suss loose threads here.
