  1.  @calvinrichards1663  You’ll have to explain exactly how a university supports a foreign country. They send a check? Maybe they buy all their pencils from Israel? I actually have a good idea of how a university can be said to support a country, but I am checking to see if you’re someone with low information.

  2. But maybe we shouldn’t define it as a problem. It’s a social phenomenon we should understand. The problem is that there’s a lot of disinformation out there. How can we get the good information out there? To do that we have to understand the phenomenon, the social environment where disinformation is taking root. I’d both sides this, but I think the right is too far gone.

  3. ⁠ @amazin7006 not for profit colleges don’t have shareholders. Columbia University or UTA are not for profit. No one gets paid a dividend and shares aren’t bought and sold on Wall Street. Private universities do have endowment funds, however. They operate on the interest from the endowment, and they invest the endowment in a portfolio of assets, some of which are stocks and bonds. There are private, for profit schools that do have owners and/or shareholders. Most of them suck and don’t deliver what they promise. In many cases the credit you earn can’t be transferred to another school. The only time you might see a protest at a for-profit is when students’ degrees are not accepted as valid.
