Canada has to protect its borders too. đ

@SirAntoniousBlock the Soviet Union was âdisolvedâ? Or rebranded? Personally I think they should have gone with NEW-SSR.

They do for training purposes because they get folded into the U.S. military when there is armed conflict. Thatâs why theyâre designated [Name of State] NATIONAL guard.

@TheTrueDeitel I donât know if Operation Condor is a direct cause, but certainly CIA counterinsurgency operations in Central America in the 70s and 80s have led to the unintended consequences of high crime, instability, and poverty in Central America that have led to the flood of refugees to our southern border.

Itâs such a common thing (see many other comments here) that itâs really not remarkable nor is it sensitive information to an adversary.

You left out the fact that so is your mom.
1
Itâs frikkin bizarre how the right wing became the anti-police nutcases just because they had one insurrection put down.
1
Youâve had that problem for more than a century and itâs still going on? Murderers and rapists, and, I assume, some good people are coming from Ireland?
1
What does that mean to close the border, and how much will it cost?

The Republicans in Congress already tied Ukrainian aid to the border crisis. Now we are being told that resolving the crisis might help Joe Bidenâs re-election campaign, so it can wait until 2025. Electing Trump takes precedence over all else. That should tell you something about the severity of the border crisis. Funny how it becomes an emergency whenever a democrat is in the White House. Funny how whenever a bipartisan compromise is reached, the Republicans kill it. Itâs almost as if they prefer having the âcrisisâ as a campaign issue over actually working to solve it.
1
Because itâs a problem when a state exceeds its authority. Texas doesnât have jurisdiction over international borders and itâs usurping (and interfering with) the Federal government.
1
Word has come down from Mar a lago to block the resolution. Every time a democrat is in the White House, there is a terrible hair-on-fire border crisis that is on the verge of destroying our country. Itâs a useful campaign issue for Republicans, and if they ever solved the broken immigration system they would lose that useful tool. It was apparently such a pressing issue that Republicans in Congress demanded that they wouldnât pass Ukraine aid legislation unless it was tied to action on the border. Iâm an ex-Republican independent, and there is no shortage of evidence why leaving the GOP was the right decision.
1
The bill is dead. The house speaker and the senate minority leader have said it wonât pass because it would give Biden a win. And this is after they tied Ukraine aid to the bill. Putin rejoices in the GOP.
1
Let me guess. âIf at first you donât secede, try and try againâ.
1
@lovebug6822 You do realize that Biden must have congressional approval to do anything, and that both the Republican Speaker of The House and the Senate Minority Leader have said they would block approval because it would hurt Trumpâs election campaign. And this is after Republicans successfully tied aid to Ukraine to resolving the border crisis.
1
Itâs used for screening and reconnaissance operations, i.e., stopping the enemy from seeing what youâre doing and seeing what the enemy is doing.
1
They arenât trying to link aid to Ukraine to the border crisis, they HAVE linked it. And now that aid to Ukraine is contingent on solving the border crisis, the Republican controlled house leadership has confirmed theyâll kill any legislation currently being negotiated. Itâs truly despicable. Itâs hard for me to believe this is the same GOP to which I was registered for 25 years.
1
As you might have guessed, much of the crisis is manufactured. The very representatives that Texas sends to Washington are actively sabotaging the federal efforts to control the border, while the Texas governor screams that the federal government is not doing enough. Some of the obstacles that the Texas governor has erected violate treaties between the U.S. and Mexico, while other obstacles (notably the razor wire) interfere with the Federal Border Patrol (the border guards) from doing their job. The Texas governor would be well within his rights if he erected his obstacles at a distance from the river. This would require taking private property from owners with property on the border, which wouldnât be popular and it wouldnât serve the purpose of generating controversy. If the crisis on the border were truly a crisis, would Donald Trump tell the Republicans in Congress to resist efforts to solve it because the crisis makes Biden look bad? I was a member of the Republican Party for 25 years. I have no love of the Democrats or of Joe Biden. But the moral bankruptcy of the modern GOP is deslumbrante.
1
How can that stateâs representatives be blocking federal efforts to defend the border? Apparently itâs not really a big crisis, because senate and congressional republicans has said this week that theyâd block any proposed solutions in order to help Trump win the election.
1
@shaggydestroyerofworlds2208 By Federal Government, you mean all three branches, correct? Because it seems like Texas Congresspeople are helping to create these problems for Texas. Ultimately, itâs the people of Texas hurting themselves by sending obstructionist representatives to Washington.
1
Heâs cried wolf a few too many times for me to think the border crisis is as bad as he says. Whatâs truly unconscionable is that the Republicans in Congress held up the Ukraine aid, demanding that it be tied to solving this so called crisis. And now word has come down from Mar A Lago that a solution to the crisis be blocked because that would help Joe Biden.
1
Last time it got that bad, they didnât have tanks.

Please donât discourage these people from moving to Russia.

And? Did you even watch Ryanâs video?

Look to Lawfare wrt to constitutional issues, national security, and international relations. For an anti-trump conservative viewpoint, thereâs the Bulwark. Both channels have podcasts and websites.

Not just by members of Congress, but the congressional republican leadership has said as much. Either the crisis on the border isnât as big a crisis as they are claiming (and itâs always been a big crisis whenever thereâs a democrat in the White House), or it is a big crisis, and the GOP is willing to put national security at risk for the sake of electing Trump.
1
What is Biden supposed to do if Congress wonât fund it? Before you judge Bidenâs performance, you need to look at the politics surrounding it. 1) The border crisis is so pressing that Republicans demand that Ukraine aid be tied to it. After initially resisting, congressional democrats give in to the demands and begin negotiating with their counterparts. 2) Trump orders the Republicans to not pass any legislation to resolve the border crisis because it might make Biden look good. The Congressional leadership acknowledges this directive publicly. Look, every time a democrat is in office, immigration becomes a crisis. Itâs been a big Republican campaign issue since Clinton was president. Either the Republicans are crying wolf again, or (if there really is a crisis) theyâre willing to put national security at risk to win an election. I donât love Joe Biden, but I love the modern GOP even less. And I was a Republican for over 25 years.

We all know youâre just trying to trick Florida into leaving by itself.
1
No, youâre not.
1
If you mean the House of Representatives failing its duty, youâre correct.

The presidency is the executive power. Congress controls the funding and makes the laws. Congress cannot order the President to hire more border guards without also funding the salaries. Right now, Republicans are demanding that President Biden do something, while the Republican controlled House of Representatives is preventing him from doing anything. Donald Trump has told congressional republicans to not pass the required legislation that theyâve been negotiating with democrats, and this past week, Republican congressional leadership acknowledged that they were following Trumpâs strategy. Whatâs even worse is that Republicans had just successfully demanded that Ukraine aid be tied to the border crisis legislation, not because theyâre related in anyway, but to pressure Biden. (Trump also recently said he hopes the U.S. economy crashes soon, before the election. Just to give you an idea of how politics has taken precedence over our national interests with the GOP. This is why I left the Republican Party and became an independent voter.)
