These guys later became the princes of Moscow Rus when the Mongols became distracted by other issues elsewhere. Moscow started as a vassal to an Asian empire, and it’s probably going to end that way.

  8. They can get NATO onboard by invoking Article 5. There is no question about this. However, then they couldn’t respond freely and more creatively.

  9. Actually, if the death and damage was caused inadvertently by a Ukrainian SAM, we could breathe a bit easier. Russia would still be responsible, but there wouldn’t be any question about Russia’s intent and whether there would be or should be an Article 5 response.
