@ExodentalCADAcademyofNorth I don’t think it’s even true anymore that “Macs are better for video and graphics”. Perhaps in certain specific circumstances it’s preferable, but it hasn’t been true for the past ten years at least. There was a time, though, when you’d absolutely need a Mac for professional video. And you wouldn’t blink at paying $2-5k for it, because the other hardware (some of which was Mac specific) would cost $10-$50k.

Mac user here. I think another consideration is the software used by one’s school. Sometimes the operating system doesn’t matter. Sometimes it really does matter, and in most cases when it matters, it favors Windows. So Ryan’s advice to this student is solid. It used to be true that doing graphics work (or in my case, video) was better on the Mac. It’s not really true anymore. I prefer the Mac because it’s what I’m used to and comfortable with. Another myth that should be dispelled is that Macs are overpriced. You get what you pay for. By the time you spec out a comparable windows machine, you’re not saving money. Even the astronomically priced Mac Pro is a good deal for its intended customers, the high end businesses and professionals that will save time and make money with the capabilities they can’t get elsewhere. (YouTube influencers, not so much.) I’ve been retired from the film and video business for more than a dozen years. I’m literally waiting for an M2 Mac Mini to replace the 2014 Mac Mini I’ve been using for almost nine years. Nine friggin’ years. How many of you windows users are using nine-year old computers?
