I had to pause the video to remind everyone that Michael Tracy is the “journalist” who was knocked flat on his ass by Maxine Waters. 80 year old Maxine Waters. Tracy was shoving a mic in her face and she pushed his arm away. Apparently the thought he drew the foul and immediately flopped, but since they weren’t playing basketball, there was no referee to call the foul and nowhere for M. Tracey to take his free throws. Journalists get things wrong all the time, especially when they get out of their normal beat. So non-military reporters call the wrong things tanks. But it takes a cringe journalist like Tracey to call out the military as he did, accusing them of meaningless obfuscation of categories of military vehicles. If you ever want an example of an imbecile thinking that his ignorance is equal to another’s expertise, Tracey is it.

There’s a difference between normal ignorance and the special cringey ignorance that people like M. Tracey push out like logs of shitty opinion. Not everyone is into military vehicles, military history, or is a member of the military. If people outside our world are ignorant about some aspects of it, so what? If a reporter mistakes a photo of an IFV for a MBT, we can forgive them if military affairs isn’t their normal beat. M. Tracey wrote an article saying that his ignorant opinion is actually correct, and it’s the experts who are wrong. Do you see the special imbecility on display here? He’s not the only one tearing down expertise while boosting ignorance, but he’s (AFAIK) the only one who was knocked on his ass by an 80 year old woman when he was trying to block her forward progress. If you are ever picking teams for flag football or full contact journalism, don’t pick Michael Tracey.
