  1. There’s a ton of crime, including murder, in some parts of Mexico. There’s corruption. There’s kidnapping. But the police (Federal, State, and Local) are still operating, even in those bad areas. The trash still gets picked up and water/power is up and running just fine in these areas. So yeah, crime is really bad, especially in the “plazitas”, the border cities and other ports-of-entry. But they don’t fit the definition of a failed state any more than Florida or other states. I’m pretty sure the U.S. will respect Mexican sovereignty, and I’m just as sure that Mexico is not going to invite the U.S. military to intervene.
