  1. 7:26 The “Yellow Peril” hysteria began post Civil War, and the Asian Exclusion Act banned immigration from China in 1885. The Chinese immigrants that stayed weren’t exactly tolerated, either. There is a history of massacres, pogroms, riots, and wholesale municipal ejections in the Western U.S., with the state and Federal government looking the other way. In only case I’m aware of where the white murderers were prosecuted for slaughtering a camp of Chinese workers and their families, the murderers were acquitted by the all white jury, despite overwhelming evidence of guilt. It was progressives and socialist leaders in the Pacific Northwest that were the greatest anti-Asian immigrant demagogues. And it was a hard liberal Democrat that locked up American citizens in concentration camps during WWII because they were of Japanese ethnicity. Racial immigration policies are not new to the U.S., nor are laws that support race based discrimination.
