@DonQuixote1918 She’s a federal judge in Florida. The warrant was executed in Florida. Like it or not, but there is a basis to claim jurisdiction over the search. She’s not trying the case.

@noahsuess2806 But can Trump simply withdraw his request for the special master? He would need to petition the court to do so. And such a petition would invite a response from the DOJ, who might want to keep the special master a while longer. Wouldn’t Trump need to state that he doesn’t contest the status and government ownership of the documents in petitioning the court to withdraw its claims? Keeping the special master and continuing with the claim offers Trump very little wriggle room, but (imo) it’s more wiggle room than he’d get if he withdraws his claim. Withdrawing is immediate game over. Continuing is a slender thread, but a thread nonetheless. He might still find a way to muddy the waters. A comet might hit earth. His pal Putin might start WWIII.

Trump and his ilk believe that everyone is just as bereft of ethics and morals as they are. They believe ethics and morals to be a hypocritical scam used by other grifters. So of course Trump believed that Dearie would be friendly to him and unfriendly to the DOJ (due to the mishandling of the Carter Page investigation). Trump believed that Dearie would want to get revenge on the DOJ. This is the mindset of Trump and (apparently) most of the GOP: help your friends and punish your enemies.
