Is “fame addiction” a fancy phrase for a childish demand for attention? Because that seems to be a common thread in these people: they are psychologically and morally at the level of a misbehaving four year old, and they have an infantile craving for attention.

They seem to not know that EVERY President faces disgruntled people whose candidate lost. Dems were unhappy about Regan, George HW Bush, and Bush. Republicans were unhappy about Clinton and Obama. All of these presidents sought to unite us after their elections, while maintaining the wisdom that they couldn’t please everyone all the time. But the Trumper snowflakes are still bent out of shape that we didn’t all rush out to kiss the ass of the most divisive President we’ve seen in decades. (There’s been no one as divisive in my lifetime, anyway.) FWIW, I voted for Reagan, George HW, Dole, George W, Obama, and I held my nose and voted for Hillary. And hell yes, I voted for Biden.

The coach is struggling to understand how his athlete became radicalized, hoping that he can prevent radicalization in other athletes he coaches or will coach. If you don’t think that people can learn from each other or be positive influences on others, or take in that positive influence, I don’t know what to tell you. A person’s character doesn’t get set in stone when they turn 18 unless there is something very wrong with them. As far as whether the athlete is really a “good person underneath it all”, he will have plenty of time to demonstrate that. If he’s very lucky, people in this life like this coach will deprogram him from whatever delusions he latched onto while being part of that cult. I think you and I agree that there should be consequences for crimes, and the Capitol Hill rioters must face those consequences. Many of these criminals are irredeemable. If redemption is possible for any, that’s on them to put in the work and seek mental help. But there are millions of Americans that didn’t participate in these crimes, but would have. Or they sympathize with the delusional cause. They are members of a cult. So I’m sort of with the coach on this one. We must understand and figure out a way to bring these people out of the cult before they get involved in something as heinous and stupid as the Capitol Riot.

@swamp365 OK, I started at Wikipedia, and then did some outside reading. Brock is not going to be subject to UCMJ because he retired from the reserve, not active duty. Retired active duty service members is something confusing me. Even though they are recallable, retirement pay is not considered an retainer that keeps their status active. It’s deferred pay for work done pre separation. Speaking of separation, there’s some wiggle room, but afaict, not months or years. Not entirely sure here, but I think this applies to noncoms. Active duty retired Commissioned officers are still subject UCMJ?

This was a person talking about someone with whom he had a close personal relationship, a person whose life had fallen apart prior to his being radicalized. 🤷🏻‍♀️ This is a person who is blaming himself, or at least searching for what he did wrong or could have done better for the athlete. It’s clear he’s horrified by the Capitol Riot, more so because he was the coach of Keller. I don’t know if that is stunning sympathy. It seems like ordinary type sympathy, when someone you were close to does something stupid and destructive and you wonder if you could have prevented it.

Honestly, I’d rather they were exiled than they stay on our soil, even in prison. As that’s not possible, let’s send them to one of the many uninhabited islands in the North Pacific. Let their families come live with them, let this entire cult relocate there if they want. Call the island “Area Q special autonomous zone” and let them live by their own fascist values. They can make a living for themselves by installing video cameras and turning the whole penal colony experience into a reality show.

@joelbusald6416 I hope I’m wrong on this, but because Brock is retired from the Reserve, he’s not under the jurisdiction of the UCMJ. At least from my reading up on this topic. If he was retired from Active Duty, he would be subject to UCMJ. I’m not an expert, so take this with a grain of salt.
