Did you get the feeling that this was the first occurrence of a protocol violation on that production? I got the impression that this wasn’t the first time, nor the first crew meeting on the topic of Covid protocol compliance. If you read between the lines, it sounds like people had tried to argue their case previously, or that they had avoided consequences by apologizing.

That’s not the point. The larger point is that most of Hollywood is in shut down, and productions are looking towards the M:I production as a model to restart production (and get people back to work). Tom’s vast wealth isn’t enough to support every worker in the film industry.

He is not known for being a jerk in the industry. Among film crews, he’s known for being professional, friendly, and a hard worker. I think this is a more important context than his membership in an oddball religion. There are horror stories in the thousands about narcissistic actors and directors, but I’ve yet to hear anything bad from a reliable source about Cruise. If this tirade was extreme, it’s probably because he’s at the end of his patience. And reading between the lines, he’s probably found himself arguing with someone who denies the virus is real or a serious threat.

Fwiw, the production is in England, which is also experiencing a really bad Covid winter surge, plus there is the new, more infectious mutation that was announced about the same time as this “scandal”. Second hand information, but I’ve never heard anything bad about Tom Cruise on the movie crew grapevine. Just the opposite.

I’ve heard the opposite on the crew grapevine over the years, that he doesn’t “lose it”. He’s professional, hardworking, and treats his crews decently.
