@savannah505 You apparently are operating with a faulty understanding of the word “investigate”. It does not mean ordering law enforcement agencies under your control to dig up dirt on your political opponents. I’m awaiting your “the other side does it” deflection. Actually, I won’t. I’m tired of countering lies and distortions with the truth.

To paraphrase a line from the movie Chinatown, “It’s Florida, Jake.” There’s crime everywhere in the U.S. If it seems more prevalent in Polk County, it’s because Grady Judd takes transparency and building community trust seriously—even if it makes his department look bad (last week’s arrest of one of his deputies, for example). Also, it’s Florida. 😄

I’m quite certain that many other law enforcement agencies across the country work just as diligently. The big difference is that Sheriff Grady Judd is devoted to public education and transparency. He doesn’t just give lip service to community relations, he spearheads it. When he reports the results of investigations (which he does on a regular basis), he includes various messages to the community to be aware of similar crimes. It’s corny, but he is constantly exhorting and appealing to members of the community to do what’s right. It’s also noteworthy that he includes exculpatory evidence. For example, in this case he mentions several times that one of the suspects didn’t personally profit, but participated in the crime as a favor to someone for whom she felt sorry. Who does that in this day and age? Law enforcement officials utterly devoted to fairness and justice, that’s who. We must continue to press for police reform in many communities, but we should also be proud of our LE agencies for all the things they do right. As you suggest, Polk County should be ESPECIALLY proud of the PCSO and Sheriff Grady Judd. His department is a model for law enforcement.

I’m thinking Grady Judd is more like a Tommy Lee Jones type. And anyway, Wayne was a bit of a fraud, even if his politics were correct. But do you know what’s better than winning an award? Having an award named after you. I propose a Sheriff Grady Judd Award for excellence in policing.

Maybe when he retires, but I think he loves what he is doing too much to get distracted by fame and fortune. The “fame” and positive regard he gets in his own community seems to be enough.

You’re a bit mixed up. It’s the judge and jury that must approach these cases with “innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt”. We expect law enforcement to be impartial, but that doesn’t mean withholding their opinion about guilt of the accused. It would be worse if they said, “we think the accused are guilty, but who knows? Maybe they’re innocent”. You’ll note that there are dozens more being investigated that were not named or pictures. Judd is not loosely flinging accusations. He’s presenting those suspects for whom they have enough evidence to prove they are guilty . . . beyond a reasonable doubt.

I haven’t figured out all the details of what provision of the CARES Act was violated, but it was likely the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) or Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA). The information provided by Sheriff Grady Judd suggests that it was the former, and that the individuals involved fraudulently created a fake company or companies. In any case, if committing fraud is the only way you can get the funds, obviously you don’t legally qualify for the program. Unlike many people in Polk County, these McDonalds employees were working and receiving wages. They didn’t need emergency relief as much as others. Nor were all of the accused McDonalds employees. Some were white collar workers. But whatever their employment status, CARES act funds in these programs are specifically for those individuals and businesses that are experiencing hardships due to the pandemic, not for any other hardship. You really don’t know what you’re talking about. You obviously do not understand the provisions of the CARES act, and you should resist the urge to give your opinion about things you do not understand.

No they didn’t. You are a liar. The timeline: The Lakers qualified for the Payment Protection loan of 4.6 million and received the money. Their business had been shut down at that point while the NBA was figuring out its next steps. When there was an outcry because of the PP program being depleted of funds, the Lakers returned the money and withdrew from the program so that businesses with more urgent needs could be assisted. The Lakers’ need wasn’t AS urgent, but the money would have been helpful in keeping people on the payroll, especially considering that at that point they didn’t know if there even would be a season. “Returned” is a misleading term, because they hadn’t yet actually received the money, but that’s how it was reported so let’s just go with it. So let’s examine your statement. “they got the money” – FALSE. “and didn’t need it” – partly FALSE, the didn’t need it as urgently as other businesses. So you’ve told one and a half lies, making you a liar and twister of the truth. Maybe you’re a natural liar. Maybe you lie to yourself, and tell lies to support your self deception. (You might tell yourself that it’s OK to lie because “everyone does it”, another example of self justifying your self deception.) Whatever your motivations, I urge you give up this habit of casually lying. Ultimately, it hurts you. It will twist you as an individual. It’s a descent into your worst self.

Check out the Polk County Sheriffs Office YouTube Channel. These press conferences are routine for all manner of criminal investigations. It’s part of that department’s transparency and public education. What you’re asking for is well beyond the scope and jurisdiction of Polk County law enforcement, unless an actual crime was committed in Polk County.
