  2. He said vaccinated or previously infected. In countries with very low rates of vaccination, more people have likely become infected and recovered at some point. So omicron isn’t in fact milder, as far as we know. It’s frustrating that we don’t know more, and it’s frustrating that there is this new evidence that suggests omicron is not milder. The silver lining here is that previous infection and/or vaccination seems to provide some protection against more severe and deadly symptoms. However, that’s the reality. The realistic response to this reality, for you and me, is to hope for the best and prepare for the worst accordingly until the conflicting evidence is resolved. More will be revealed as the variants spread.

  4. No, the experts have been pretty spot on, making corrections when new data comes in. It’s the Republican politicians that for the most part have been wrong, ignorant, or in the case of the President, intentionally misleading.

  6. Agreed, as long as you anti vaxxers agree to separate yourselves from the rest of society. Let’s find you an uninhabited island where you won’t have to take the vaccine, won’t have to wear a mask, or social distance, or put up with any societal constraints on your freedom. Have gatherings as large as you like. No lock downs! Just do it far away from the rest of us that want to survive this pandemic. I suggest one of the uninhabited islands in the Aleutian Archipelago. Think of it as camping.

  7.  @Scorpion-my3dv  Part of the problem is that you yourself don’t know anything about the guy being interviewed. This isn’t your fault, not entirely. The news presents him as former ambassador to Georgia and Kazakhstan, which is true but doesn’t provide enough context. Mr. Courtney was an ambassador in the early to mid 90s, served a few more years in the Foreign Service, and left government service in 1999. He then went into think-tankery/academia. He has more years in academia than he does in government. So Courtney has been out of the loop for 23 years. He has a lot of knowledge and experience, but he has no more access to inside information than you or I do through news reports and open source intelligence. The news channel interviews him for insights, which he might have or might not have. As an academic he’s going to qualify his answers according to the amount of evidence he has. This is all the stuff that you should know before taking Courtney’s “insights” as an indication of what the government or intelligence community knows. He’s not an idiot (afaik) but he’s not omniscient, either.
