  1.  @Scorpion-my3dv  Part of the problem is that you yourself don’t know anything about the guy being interviewed. This isn’t your fault, not entirely. The news presents him as former ambassador to Georgia and Kazakhstan, which is true but doesn’t provide enough context. Mr. Courtney was an ambassador in the early to mid 90s, served a few more years in the Foreign Service, and left government service in 1999. He then went into think-tankery/academia. He has more years in academia than he does in government. So Courtney has been out of the loop for 23 years. He has a lot of knowledge and experience, but he has no more access to inside information than you or I do through news reports and open source intelligence. The news channel interviews him for insights, which he might have or might not have. As an academic he’s going to qualify his answers according to the amount of evidence he has. This is all the stuff that you should know before taking Courtney’s “insights” as an indication of what the government or intelligence community knows. He’s not an idiot (afaik) but he’s not omniscient, either.
