  6. ivermectin has no medical mechanism by which it can treat or prevent viruses. It’s an anti parasite that works as a neurotoxin, attacking the nervous systems of worms and lice. You know, critters. Viruses are of a different order all together and do not have nervous systems. Other than that, your program is not a bad suggestion. Even if the other supplements have not been shown to be specifically effective against Covid, they contribute to one’s general health, and most importantly, are not going to hurt you at sensible doses.

They’ve been persecuting her with police raids ever since. I’m not saying her allegations were correct, but I don’t recall an investigation to clear the FLA health department, only the investigation into her.

  12.  @andyjarman4958  Merck is the one company that stood to make the most money from Ivermectin. If they thought it would help, they wouldn’t be hiding there fact. Merck’s own vaccine candidates failed. They have no therapeutic treatments anywhere near ready for market. As a result they are going to manufacture the Jansen vaccine for the U.S. and they’ve been looking for smaller companies with therapeutics in development with which to partner (or buy out). I don’t want to discount Ivermectin. There could be something there. But it’s ridiculous to assert that Merck is trying to bury it, when they could and would most certainly be using it to bury their competitors if they thought it was a cure.

  17. What’s your time frame? Given a long enough timeline, your probability of dying is 100%. But seriously, that number is very hard to predict, given the newness of this novel coronavirus and the changes it undergoes. Someone could give you a probability today in good faith, and that number could change tomorrow or next week. Expecting certainty, as some people seem to do, is a recipe for disappointment.

In countries where a large number of people were acting irrationally, government lockdowns have become necessary—yet (in the case of the U.S.A.) poorly and inconsistently implemented. Those nations that have instituted strict lockdowns initially, including strict border control and limited domestic travel, have seen the most success (in the cases of New Zealand and Australia, for example).

  24. If the cause of the various symptoms is a bradykinnin storm (as opposed to a cytokine storm), Vitamin-D has been shown to regulate the release of bradykinnins. There’s your “possibility of a suggestion of what might be correlation”. Google “Bradykinnin Covid”.

  25.  @ChristopherJGould  I guess I’m guilty of chrono-chauvinism, because I was surprised by how many people have regressed to all sorts of delusional thinking in our “modern age”. Sure, we all know people with eccentric beliefs (all sorts of pseudoscience and astrology and whatnot) in normal times, but I really didn’t think there were so many, nor that they would cling so steadfastly to their delusions. We’ve all known cranks that are anti-experts, anti “book learning”, but I never imagined that political movements would cohere around such idiocy, seemingly gaining force the more reality smacks them (and all of us) in the face. I suppose it’s deep seated fear that drives people into such positions.

  29. Thank you. There’s also the matter of long term tendency towards mildness (less virulence). What time scale are we talking? It’s logical that there is an upper limit or ceiling to virulence—viruses can’t spread and replicate if the host is killed too quickly. But increased transmissibility would raise that limit, no? It could be quite a long time before we see a “mild virus” if we try to wait it out.

  33. Where there are so many active cases . . . that mutations outpace our ability to create new vaccines? More viruses replicating in the wild, i.e., in us, the more likely that one of those viruses is a more pathogenic or more transmissible new variant? Early last March I had a foolish hope that my government would institute strict lockdowns, rigorously enforced, and for sufficient time. Soon after, the President began to politicize the pandemic, lie about its seriousness, and possibly profit from it. The piecemeal weak lockdowns alternating with partial reopenings are doing basically nothing to contain the pandemic.

  36. It really depends on how they express themselves and whether those expressions make a combination more viable. A mutation that changes the color of the virus will not affect a variant that better fits the human receptor. (Yes, I know that’s s dumb example to you virus experts, but it seemed easier to visualize.) You still have a situation where the overwhelming majority of mutations are not going to combine to create a more virulent virus. In fact, I imagine that there is a limited group of genetic mutations that can, either alone or together, create more effective variants. And the fewer people providing themselves as “virus nurseries”, the fewer chances there are for a strain to mutate into a more effective strain, that will cause more infections, more etc. In any case, it’s very important that we gain control now as much as possible. New variants will arise, probably are already out there undetected.

  45. Hi Liz! This seems to be an open question, but I wanted to correct a common misperception. “Side effects” is not the right term. There’s a wide range of immunity system responses. We do want our immune systems to respond to the vaccine! Of course, just as a matter of physical comfort, we don’t wish for an extreme response! Yet whatever the response, it’s a sign that the vaccine is doing its job. Nevertheless, you have posed a very good question and I hope we find out the answer in the near future.

One would think that co-infection is standard, at first obviously in the first person in which the variant occurs, and then over time the more infectious variant displaces the original as it spreads. I don’t think if this indicates a compound danger. Also, just to be clear, viruses do not breed, so there is no child virus that receives multiple mutations from each parent. There is no child and no parent. The virus reproduces itself, with mutations being errors in reproduction.

  47. If it relieves any worry, the virus doesn’t have any instincts, nor does nature. What is happening is this: genetic mutations are errors in reproduction, some errors have no effect, some are worse for the virus, some are better. The mutation in these more dangerous variants seems to be that their ability to bind with certain receptors is better, allowing them to take hold more quickly and reach their virulent stage (when a sick person is “shedding” or spreading the virus). Another way to say that the variant virus is more infectious is that one needs less exposure to the virus than with the original. This is why wearing a double mask is a good idea, and (I believe) vitamin supplements that boost the body in general might help prevent getting sick. Reasonable dosages of vitamins won’t hurt, anyway. Hope this helps ease your mind a bit.

  48. It’s not so much that the U.S. medical experts are being less honest and open, it’s that they lack data. The lack of data is due to lack of preparedness for a foreseeable eventuality, and that is due to the previous political administration’s reckless negligence. Testing for variants wasn’t funded because it wasn’t seen as necessary and not worthy of funding. It is not inaccurate to call the party that supported this negligence a death cult.

  50. With so much unknown, I don’t know how Dr. Campbell can speak with such certainty that omicron will soon finish off the pandemic. There is hopeful evidence, but nothing that justifies certainty. I’m glad he feels optimistic, but I’m afraid I don’t see the basis for most of it, until more evidence comes in.
