Exactly this. She is without shame.

Bill Kristol. Billy Crystal is a comedian. Both of them are mahvahlous.

The number of never Trumper Republicans speaking at the convention is unprecedented, as far as I can remember. In 2008, Democrat Joe Lieberman endorsed his friend and fellow Senator John McCain and subsequently spoke at the RNC. And that’s all I can remember. It was nothing like this. You know, if the Dems stopped throwing their conservative members under the bus and made room in the tent for conservatives, you might attract some of these folks.

Trump Fatigue Syndrome. We’re not deranged, we’re just exhausted by Trump and the prospect of four more years of him.
6
They didn’t have to.

1) Polling hasn’t caught up to this story 2) There are a lot more racists than you thought there were in the U.S. This includes folks not actively racist, but who are sympathetic to racists and susceptible to racist propaganda.

Do you know how Congressional representatives are elected? Do yourself a favor and get a good grounding in basic civics.
6
Nah. He could escape. He just would lose a lot of lucrative gigs. Maybe he’s hoping for a seat on SCOTUS somewhere down the line.

I took a perverse pride in McConnell’s dirty political fighting skills. The way he finessed RBG’s seat was breathtaking. I understand why the Democrats hated him so much. He was effective. Much the same way that Republicans hate Nancy Pelosi because she was equally effective. Nancy will go down in history as a hero. McConnell will go down in history as a coward. Now it is up to us to do what Mitch failed to do: stop Trump. Casting your vote for Biden is not enough. You’ve got to get involved. Make sure voters get to the polls. Make sure people are registered. Work a phone bank or walk a precinct. Don’t take this election for granted. We’ve not only got to win, we got to win by a large margin.

More than not voting for him, they’re repudiating him. They have been for years.

@TheDeadlyefx Maybe we have different notions of dystopia, but I think we are already in dystopian territory. That doesn’t mean it’s hopeless, though. If we have not descended too far into dystopia, there is a chance we can recover and return to normality. But if we are in it, that does not relieve us of our moral agency or the necessity that we fight for what is right. We are not excused from the challenges ahead because the world is going to hell.

@mariehelena2364 I’m hearing this Uniparty BS from extreme leftists, too.
5
Y’all aren’t tired enough if you’ve got the energy to type in all caps.
5
100%. If 2016 has taught us anything, it’s that voting is not enough, you have to make sure everyone around you goes to the polls and votes.
5
Yeah, my choice too. I wish we had a better choice, but Biden is far above the other two.

@davedammann741 I don’t know if you live in St. Petersburg, FLA or St. Petersburg, RUS, but a bot is a bot is a bot.

Notice how there weren’t a lot of wild fires in California this summer? Space Force knocked out the Yiddish space lasers. Also, they spell martial law “marshal”. But seriously, guys and gals, there’s a couple of sci fi books I think y’all should read: V.A.L.I.S. and Radio Free Albemuth. Both by Philip K. Dick, who is one of the under appreciated writers of science fiction, despite being the most adapted sci-fi writer in Hollywood.

@oulibemusic1257 I didn’t share the other anecdote, which is a shameful story. It happened when I was younger than I was in the first anecdote. This was back when I was in my early twenties and a macho shit. I had a girlfriend that loved me more than I loved her. The short version is that she got pregnant, wanted to have a baby with me, and I used all the manipulative tricks of the emotional bully to convince her to abort. I nagged her to get an abortion. I feel ashamed for how I treated her, but I think I’m glad that she had the abortion. Neither one of us would have been good parents. But I think the worst thing is that I didn’t want her to have agency. I wanted her to not make the decision, but to follow my decision. I was hard on her because I didn’t want to take any chances. I don’t know if we can draw any generalizations from my experience. But I think it demonstrates a pitfall of trying to center questions of reproductive rights around men, even a little bit. Yes, we are involved. But we have our own agendas and those agendas don’t always line up with women’s rights.

Probably both this and the self-dealing.

If he doesn’t show up to his meeting with the probation officer, he’ll be arrested and have to appear before Marchan—who will then take that into account during sentencing. It would show a total disregard for the New York criminal justice system. Some people are suggesting that Trump might not serve jail time. Missing his P.O. appointment would close that possibility.
4
@aliceanneacts6164 Nothing like this. The only significant time was Joe Lieberman endorsing McCain and speaking at the RNC. But Lieberman wasn’t sounding the alarm that Obama was a threat to democracy, he just didn’t think Obama had the qualifications while McCain did.

They log every call from constituents. They log every piece of snail mail from constituents. That’s one of the duties of a senator’s staff. If the call wasn’t logged, it didn’t happen.

@Jeff-by9de Senate staffer: Did you call 911? Caller: I don’t mean they’re eating my cat right this second. But I’ve noticed how they eye my cat, with slavering jaws and their tongues hanging out. Staffer: Uh, can you describe these Haitians? Caller: They’re furry. They walk around on four legs and they have tails. Staffer: Those aren’t Haitians. Those are dogs. Haitians are humans, don’t have tails, and walk around on two legs. Caller: I think these were Haitian Shepards. They’ve also been chasing the geese and barking late at night.

Nah. Thats not a good reason for a judge to exercise his courtroom powers. “Making an example” of a defense witness to impress Trump is really bad judicial practice. I like my rule of law to actually be rule of law.
4
Some of his political analysis is cutting and devastatingly funny. I used to excuse his racism as being something of the times in which he wrote, but eventually the evidence against him was too much. He’s someone I might still enjoy reading, but I find it harder to cite or quote him without feeling queasy. Still, it’s hard not love, “Democracy is the idea that the common people should get what they want, good and hard.”
4
Let’s not forget. Trump couldn’t force Rudy to change. Rudy had to be ready to change. He had to WANT to change. This is Therapy 101. 😉
4
What the hell? Omygod! This is going to be good.

Russian mobilization: just as bad, twice as much! Stalin once said, “Quantity has a quality of its own,” but if the thing being measured is pure crap, that “unique quality” is still going to smell like crap. The real risk is that if Russia is a country in a death spiral, and if it falls apart, there is no telling what hectic and frantic actions it will take.

Ralston is the go to guy for Nevada.

That’s what jumped out at you? 😅
4
@rodneyoneil-kb1xk but at the end of the day you’re still a bot.
4
@billstretch9187 Compared to opponent, she has a plan. It is Trump that has no plan.

Our family dog was one of two imperfect pups in a show dog litter.

@AriaBellacini I’ve been repeating this in various comments. What else are you doing besides voting? Voting is barely the bare minimum we need to do to defeat Trump. Please, turn your enthusiasm into action, and preferably action offline. Volunteer for the Harris/Walz campaign. Register voters and help voters check that their registrations are up to date. The work we do now will have long term effects beyond the election, when the magas cry “stolen election” once again. Let’s turn our enthusiasm into motivation. That’s what wins elections. Fighting maga bots and trolls might be entertaining, but it’s not the real work a participatory democracy requires. Let’s be a real grassroots. Everything I am telling you applies to me as well.

You can have my beer when you can pry it from my, hold up a second, uuuhump, 🤢🤮 [passes out].

The only person in Congress that was shocked by McCarthy’s ouster was McCarthy.

@ninatrabona4629 That is a bizarre idea, but I give you points for creativity. What is exactly the basis for your idea of taxing pornography? Is this a sin tax, that allows for certain behaviors but penalizes it financially? Or is the rationale that there are hidden externalities that must be paid? How would pornography be taxed? By the pixel? Or by the wank? I find the idea of a wank tax immensely entertaining. Even saying it makes me laugh. “Wank Tax”. 😂

I’m also old. One thing I’ve learned over the past 8 years is that voting isn’t really enough, we have to engage with democracy and we have to work to protect our democratic institutions. We’ve been on autopilot for far too long. If you’re feeling exuberance and enthusiasm, put that energy to good use.
3
It’s too much to hope that he emulate Navalny in his final seconds.
3
@chaddolly You’re suffering from DTs so badly it’s a miracle that you can type.

If the Supreme Court decides in Trumps favor, there will be a lot more weight to the idea of Supreme Court reform, including adding more justices to the bench.

The city and state government has a cause of action, but unless there is violence against members of the Haitian community based on the smears, there isn’t a cause of action nor is there a plaintiff. If there is violence, God forbid, the victims of that violence have a case. The problem here is that broadly smearing an ethnic group is protected speech. Inciting violence is not protected speech, but unless there is violence, you can’t call these smears inciting violence. There is a remedy available to the people of Ohio, though. It’s called the ballot box.
3
It’s an ambiguous term representing different proposals and different policies that address the issues. We can debate the proposals to try and find a solution. The left is not trying to confiscate all firearms, and we should stop saying they are. We can ignore the few progressive firebrands that take that extreme position because it’s not going to happen.

Mike Steele was a good role model for non-white people to get involved in Republican politics for a long time. In 2012, I really thought the moment had come when we would have to pull out the virulent weed of racism and make our conservative garden more inclusive. There are a hell of a lot of people of color who vote Democrat but who hold conservative values. Sadly, it was not to be. The GOP found another way by overtly appealing to racists and other assorted crazies. They took the quick fix to power with Trump rather than doing the hard work. The damage they’ve done to conservatism is incalculable, but even worse is the damage they’ve done to their souls. They’re damned.

“What a world!” Someone check if Tim is melting.

I used to say, “Taylor Swift is this generation’s Joni Mitchell” just to mess with boomers, but now I’m not so sure I wasn’t right.
3
He should be remembered for his great leadership. But we should also remember that he imprisoned American citizens because of their ethnicity.
3
Bingo!
3
If he was mortified, he’d resign, go home, and sprinkle salt and pepper on a barrel. He doesn’t show a single symptom of shame.

You’re ignoring the post Soviet history of U.S. MIC reduction which went on unabated for ten years and has never quite regained its cold war influence since the GWOT began in earnest. The MIC has been scaled back to such an extent that a few ambitious dictatorships have found the encouragement to challenge the political order. And our industrial base had shrunk to the point that the rogue nations’ challenges have become plausible. Our military might not be up to the challenge if we don’t rebuild. I’m not going to debate the validity on Eisenhower’s warning at the time he made it. But I will say that it is irrelevant to our current historical context.
