  1. Mike Steele was a good role model for non-white people to get involved in Republican politics for a long time. In 2012, I really thought the moment had come when we would have to pull out the virulent weed of racism and make our conservative garden more inclusive. There are a hell of a lot of people of color who vote Democrat but who hold conservative values. Sadly, it was not to be. The GOP found another way by overtly appealing to racists and other assorted crazies. They took the quick fix to power with Trump rather than doing the hard work. The damage they’ve done to conservatism is incalculable, but even worse is the damage they’ve done to their souls. They’re damned.
