  1. If this tank was knocked out by a javelin, it wasn’t high velocity, but rather a shaped charge. A shaped charge as you might know, cuts a hole into the armor somewhat like a plasma torch. The counter measure for this is explosive reactive armor, which causes the shaped charge to prematurely detonate, but the latest generation of AT weapons (such as the Javelin) have a two stage payload to defeat this. Older AT weapons do not. However, we’ve seen video of captured Russian tanks that shows the ERA containers filled with cardboard! The tankers might have thought they had some protection against AT weapons, but apparently they did not due to incompetence, unpreparedness, or corruption.
