  1.  @tigertank06  What holiday isn’t made up? Those based on astronomical events are artificial, even if the dates aren’t entirely arbitrary. Heck, the names of plain old regular days is arbitrary, as is their organization into weeks, months, and years. (And if you’re going to bring up lunar cycles, please explain how lunar cycles change from 28 days to as long as 31 days?)

  3. I never knew the history either, although I vaguely knew its roots were in the civil rights movement, and that (like many family holidays) it was related to culture and heritage. And holidays, heritage, culture, and family means one thing more than any other: FOOD! 😋 I’m my mind, I associate Kwanza with pie—like the best pies you’ll eat all year. That pecan pie baked by your friend’s auntie that causes you to angle for a Kwanza invite every year. Or it could be a sweet potato pie or cherry cobbler brought by another auntie or cousin. (But it’s Aunt Mable’s pie I remember these many years later.)
