It was a “strategic necessity” because 1) Stalin refused to believe the Nazis would attack despite concrete evidence, 2) the Red Army was unprepared and the officer corp had been purged by Stalin in the 30s.

  2.  @TuomoKalliokoski  It’s the GRU troll farms that have gotten the most (unwanted by them) visibility. Sadly, they seem to have recruited a lot of volunteers in the U.S. among the Q-fans. The way you tell the difference is that GRU operatives make English usage errors because they are non-native speakers, while the Q-fans make errors because they’re dumber than a sack of hammers.

  4. It was quickly occupied because it was thrown to the Nazi wolf. That was Russian strategy in the first year of the Nazi invasion into the USSR. When Russians brag about their war dead, they should be reminded of how many were Ukrainians. They should be reminded that the high civilian casualties were in part because Stalin and the Red Army abandoned them.

  6. NATO wasn’t created to defend nations that are not members of the alliance. It is true that they have on occasion exceeded their stated mission. However, attacking Russia now would in fact be against their own charter, due to the close proximity of the conflict to actual NATO members. AFAIK, Ukraine hasn’t asked to be in NATO over the past 10 years, nor has it asked to join in the last week. It’s Finland and Sweden that are asking right now. And who could blame them?
