The Russian response was reticulous.

I don’t know how much of the bomblet is fragmentation material and how much is explosive, but they’re about the volume of a hand grenade. They might even be using some type of non-metal fragments, which makes X-rays hard to read. The main thing is that these drones cannot carry much weight. The bomblet is probably near the maximum for effective search and targeting at a certain height.

It is a toy, more or less, but it can be repurposed to drop those small anti-person bomblets. This will be a major part of warfare going forward. Drones are cheap as hell. These little bomblet dropping missions are proofs-of-concept. Imagine a swarm of 50 or a 100 swarming over a trench moments before a hasty attack on a position you just identified. Maybe artillery support is unavailable, or maybe you don’t want the artillery to tip off the enemy. You could have drone mines that would position themselves minutes or moments before the enemy gets there, triggered remotely.

The turrets were made in Ukraine, but they were designed by the famous Russian engineer Ivanna Popov.

What’s the big deal? I make bomblets every day. Usually I make them in the morning after I’ve had my coffee. My bomblets are very accurate, but that’s not saying much since I’m sitting on the target. Granted, the drone fly higher and the bomblets drop further. And they use explosives to put the victims into a world of shit. But my bomblets can deny the enemy access to the bathroom. In fact, it’s possible my bomblets are illegal under the Geneva Convention.

Where’s the quantity then?

@HubertofLiege No, that’s an incorrect comparison. Here is the correct one: Under capitalism, man exploits his fellow man. Under communism, it’s the other way around.

I was wondering about that, but I know nothing. First thought was, Why not invert the drone? Perhaps there is a technical reason that has to do with the release mechanism. The second thought was, shouldn’t they do that over a pillow?

What do you mean “somewhat”? Bullets and shells will just bounce off! That’s the ACME guarantee. Just ask any coyote about Acme’s fine line of armaments and military products.

Twenty? Only two have been seen. If there are 20, they’ve never been in the same place at the same time. My guess is that Russia built two for testing and as sales models, but have not yet made a sale.

You might want a tank, any tank, to support you, but you wouldn’t want to maneuver within 10 meters if it. You’d probably want to stay well clear of it to avoid being crushed by a falling turret.

The newest improvement to reactive armor filler is sheets of rubber. The theory is that shells will just bounce off a tank protected by rubber armor. I swear, I feel like I’m watching a Roadrunner cartoon, and Russia is the Coyote.
