@MasterMalrubius What police departments were defunded? Once you’ve named a few, which ones of those cut officer training and just put untrained officers out on the street? I think you’re making things up or repeating bullpuckey that someone else made up.

Why is that more disgusting than other aspects of the case? The village has liability insurance and police officers have a union. If the insurance company wanted to make the police officer bear part of the burden, they could have tried. But this case is small potatoes and I doubt it’s worth their while. We also weren’t privy to the settlement negotiations. It’s possible (and likely) that the village/village’s insurance wanted to settle at that figure and the police officer defendant did not. So the village said, screw it, we’ll just pay it and get this over with. Sorry that your sense of what is proper was offended by this case. It’s a terrible thing when one’s feelings about justice are offended.
