Good for you! I worked for a used bookstore (not in the U.S.) While I was on vacation, the owner cut wages and I wasn’t informed. I worked for a week at the lower rate without knowing it. On the next payday, I was an amount $30 short and that was when I was informed of the pay cut. When I said this was a breach of our agreement, she said “take it or leave it”. Fortunately, the bookstore let employees take home books as a perk. I informed the owner that I just wouldn’t return the books. She looked up the list of the books I had borrowed and wanted to negotiate (instead of promptly paying me the money owed). I declined her offer to open negotiations and kept the books. 😂 It’s not as good as your story. But I’d rather teach others expensive lessons than have to learn expensive lessons.

I always ask if the server prefers cash over my adding it the total and paying with my CC. In many cases they don’t care, and in some cases they get their night’s tips paid in cash before they go home. I used to wait tables when I was in college. I always kicked down 10-20% to the busboy assigned to my tables. I often had the same guy and he was attentive to customers. A good busboy does more than clear dishes.
