  1. It’s frikkin’ scary but ICE loses track of people all the time. They’ve lost children when they were separating families. I vaguely remember one case that I think was in San Diego, where they picked up one kid (either a citizen or someone with a legal right to be here), but him alone in a detention cell in the ICE facility, and promptly forgot he was there over a four day weekend. He died of dehydration. ICE is such a terrible organization that a sub-agency (Homeland Security Investigations, which investigates the really bad stuff related to bad people in the country illegally) has repeated tried to get itself separated from ICE to be merged into another HS agency or to be its own independent agency. They have a recruiting/retention/morale problem because investigators don’t want to be a part of ICE.
