@mjr1093 That’s not true about structural issues. A building can have major structural issues that need to be addressed expediently that don’t require immediate evacuation. The point is not to wait until the building is at the point of collapse before addressing issues. I am certain that you know nothing about engineering. Nor does your argument about this being a cover for rent increases. If they owners want to raise the rent, they can simply raise the rent. There is no rent control in Colorado, so no need to use a repair loophole to remove tenants and raise the rent. The owner will actually lose all revenue from the building during the repair period by evicting everyone at once.

The Colorado State Supreme Court has ruled that rent control is unconstitutional, and the legislature has not been able to pass any rent control laws that would supersede the ruling. Therefore, the property owners do NOT need to use a loophole to raise rents. Therefore your argument has no basis. If repairs weren’t necessary and the owners wanted to raise the rent, they could just raise the rent. They don’t need justification.
