@thegreyavenger2 The DUI is a separate case for the state court. She was penalized by the federal judge for violating her release because of the DUI. I don’t know whether or not the DUI has already been adjudicated, but the penalty will be separate if she was or will be convicted. I don’t know what her pre trial release orders were. They’re basically “stay out of trouble”, and sometimes a judge can order a person to not drink. You might say, “that’s dumb, the judge has no way to check if a person isn’t drinking”. The judge does if the person gets a dui.

I think this is potentially worse for lib dem gun owners. They’ll now have to explain their gun ownership to their lib dem friends. They might face ostracism and not get invited to wine tastings.

It’s pretty bad, but I had the impression that most gun owners were so proud of owning guns that they made a point of bragging about it and challenging others to try to take the guns away from them. What’s that thing they’re always saying? “Mole Labia”? I think this is potentially worse for liberal Democrat gun owners, who will now have to explain to their lib Dem friends why they own a “scary” gun.

Good for you. If you carry out your decision, please a take gun safety class and train yourself to use your firearm. Even if you feel confident, take the class as a refresher and then keep your skills honed. Hopefully you will never need to use a firearm to defend yourself or your family from violence, but it’s obviously important that you don’t accidentally hurt yourself or others with a firearm. Heck, I even recommend non-owners take a safety class and learn how to shoot. Too many people have an irrational fear of firearms through complete ignorance. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s a duty that each person know how to shoot, but it might be in their best interest if they do.

Two years would have been better, considering that she was busted for DUI while out on bail. But 15 months is also good. There is not much time off for good behavior in federal prison.

@NoName-vq3zo She’s young and physically fit. The money will be owed until she pays it. If she doesn’t, she will be hauled back into court—that should be sufficient motivation.

@t2dev That’s not the case for federal sentences. At best you might get 15% reduced, and the good-behavior requirements are tighter as well. She will probably serve the full 15 months, less time served. Or more, if she gets into trouble in Federal prison.

@benvasilinda9729 Oh, I doubt that. I would assume that she got an extra 3 months for the release violation from the DUI. And just to be clear, the DUI is a separate STATE charge. She will be tried separately for that, in state court, and possibly serve time in a state facility in addition to the 15 months in federal prison.
