@nmcovert He possibly means that the U.S. and other European countries are supporting Ukraine’s military financially. At best, Jim is being short sighted about our involvement in supporting Ukraine. We are getting much more bang for the buck by depleting the Russian military. That alone is worth the expense, but there are bonus considerations if Putin falls and a new Russian governments forms. If he had any intelligence, he’d know that the Chinese are watching what we do and whether our commitment is wavering. They’re watching and taking note of what happens to criminally belligerent dictators. I’m guessing he’s not that smart because I want to give him the benefit of the doubt. The alternative is that he’s a troll or shill for Putin. If he’s an American, he would likely have fascist or neoNazi sympathies. That’s if he’s not a dummy—although you could argue that those types are ultimately the biggest dummies. I wouldn’t argue with you about that.

@DeviousN The wooden screws appear as tiny gaps in the radar signature, which will confuse the target radar operators. Probably.

I’m thinking of making a suit out of a bunch of ACOGs.

@MrandMrsSmiths look up Solzhenitsyn’s Inner Circle. Read GULAG Archipelago, too, for that matter. It’s almost June. Solzhenitsyn makes for some entertaining light summer reading. 😅

@dsemasin The country has been falling apart since George Washington left office. Which is to say, the situation is desperate. Like it usually is. 😆

@granatmof The reason you won’t see a F-22 coming at you is completely different from the reason you won’t see a SU-57 coming at you. 😂

@pastrie42 Being dead for refusing to work isn’t an effective strategy for living either. Even worse if you have a wife/husband and kids and you want them to live.

@chiseldrock open a terminal and run a defenestration process in the background. Done.

Thank you for working those long hours keeping the birds in the air. You ground crews are unsung heroes, whether in war or peacetime.

Maintenance is important, but so are airframe hours. The frames of these aircraft endure a lot of stress over their lifetimes, leading to eventual metal fatigue and failure. When an aircraft reaches its maximum amount of hours, you might as well scrap it or risk pilot lives. I’m pretty sure that Denmark and the Nederland are giving all the viable aircraft, but they were already putting some them into mothballs (which implies minimal maintenance).

@deriznohappehquite 100% this. So many comments here from people without the slightest idea about planning and procurement.

So it turns out that “The Five Eyes” doesn’t refer to UK, US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. 😂

@jeffkerr7418 LOL, no. They use Red Hat COMMUX.

@DeviousN You’re going to argue about the special invisibility powers of wooden screws? What are you, a dummy? Those were SU-57s with the wooden screws taken out to fool dummies like you, obviously. What makes you think I’m griping about anything? I’m perfectly and tranquilly content with my Swedish airplane.

@NuclearFalcon146 You was threatening somebody? Shame on you! The Russian trolls are tracked. They work out of GRU facilities that have been compromised to such an extent that our guys have access to the security cams, so they can connect a face with the name of the troll. Our guys know where they live. I don’t know if they will be made to pay, but they certainly can be made to pay.

If AI assist adds to the pilots’ cognitive workload, you’re doing something wrong. AI is a prosthetic instrument meant to extend our capabilities. It’s a tool to augment the intelligence of the pilot (or whomever is using it), like a scope augments one’s vision. “Hard AI” or conscious AI is very far off, if not impossible.

@haruruben They were offered the A10 (it would be a good excuse for USAF to retire them) and the Ukrainians turned it down, rightly. They don’t need another complex logistical chain for a platform that won’t easily integrate into their defense forces.

@Igor-xl4wz The problem is the cost of keeping them in readiness, money that can be spent better elsewhere. It’s no longer an effective use of resources. As noted in the video, the gun’s effectiveness is much less. They are still useful for delivering smart bombs and other munitions from a distance, but again, we have other platforms that do this better. A lot of confusion is due to people misunderstanding Close Air Support (CAS), particularly the word “close”. Close refers to how close the target is to the forces you are supporting. It has nothing to do with how close the aircraft is.

@georgevantuyl5837 was he your mutktr’s brutkr or your 7lkp’s?

Sure, but you need top cover, too. Basically, you need a total package for temporary local superiority. Maybe someone knows how many aircraft it will take to fulfill these roles at the same time.

“Fans” = video game players that focus on individual tanks and planes, who lack understanding of systems, subsystems, and platforms.

Single use F-16s.

Won’t Ukraine need to operate the F-16s in a variety of roles at the same time? If they provide air support for the counter offensive, they’re also going to need SEAD and top cover. They’ll need at least temporary and local air supremacy. So if this is all true, how many will be required for such a mission? I guess we will see how quickly the donated planes arrive and how far along the training is, but I think they will initially be used in a limited missile interceptor role over Kyiv and Odessa. It’s only when they have a significant number of planes, trained pilots, and trained maintenance crew that Ukraine can take full advantage. My main curiosity is what that number of planes is (and when we should expect them to arrive). That said, it is important that Ukraine receive A LOT of F-16s because when the conflict ends, they’re not going to get NATO membership right away. A strong air force is a deterrent and Ukraine will need that deterrent. Three hundred F-16s (and what the heck, 50 Gripens) mean you don’t have to hope Russia keeps its word. You don’t give it any choice. If the U.S. committed to another 150-200 F-16s, it would signal that we are committed to Ukraine for longer than just the war.

@sneakyfeats2353 Alien pilots, not Russian. Duh! 🙄

I don’t mind seeing your puss, but I made sure there were no children present. 😉 No, seriously, this short format is fine for breaking news items.

They can design hypersonic weapons in GULAG. 😖

What are the odds that he was the butt of a prank or practical joke by other members of the task force?
