  1. Not right now, but If you’ve given up on the idea of halting or reversing global warming, Greenland becomes an attractive target. Imagine Greenland without the glaciers. That’s a lot of living space. In 50 to 100 years, it will be quite clear that Greenland is quite the prize. Trump’s proclamations, as asinine as they are, is the opening bid in the game for that prize. I think the intended recipients of Trump’s message are other powers that might someday want to colonize Greenland. The fact that it is insulting to Denmark and other Europeans is just a welcome side effect. Trump isn’t a long term thinker or a grand strategist. But people around him might be. They’re trying to position the U.S. for maximum advantage in the environmental cataclysms to come.
