@erosgritti5171 Yes, and those people lived in those regions for thousands of years without central heating. Do you think that they’ve lost that ability in only a few generations? Some Scandinavians are literally physically adapted to the climate. Or don’t you believe in evolution?

Reading between the lines, another unfounded assumption made by the Russians is, “Europeans like to be blackmailed. In fact, Europeans like to be blackmailed so much, they will cave in to Russian demands rather than explore options that will free them from Russian pressure points.” It’s worth noting here that the EU has already committed to reducing its use of gas and oil because of global warming. All Russia is really doing is speeding up the timeline. Long term, Russia is amputating a source of income that it cannot make up through trade with other partners. It will take a decade to create the pipelines to sell petroleum based resources to India and China. Meanwhile, they are also reducing their reliance on fossil fuels. In this and in many other sectors of the global economy, Russia is engaging in a solo one-legged ass kicking contest. With every kick, they hit their own buttocks and then fall to the ground. Russia is beating Russia to a bloody pulp.

There is a single old pipeline that can deliver to China, but not at high volume. It will take a decade at least to build new pipelines, and most of the funding will come from China if Chinese investors are willing to risk their capital. It’s more or less the same situation with India and other parts of Southern Central Asia—more, really, given the engineering challenges. Meanwhile, India and China will reduce their reliance on fossil fuels to combat global warming.

I love this break down, Anders. Another assumption that Putin seems to make is that Europe enjoys being blackmailed and will maintain the status quo so that they can be blackmailed every winter. He’s like a demented and perverted farmer who thinks he can keep raping milk cows and they won’t jump over the fence and get away.

@joachimfrank4134 The USSR might have been a reliable partner, but Russia under Putin is not.

You’ve heard the expression, “cutting off your nose to spite your face”? It’s like that, but Russia is slitting its own throat.

@attilamarics4808 You are one determined troll, I’ll give you that. For your own sake, I hope you can find a moral foundation, a basis for rational thought, and grow a conscience. Russia is not your friend. It would gobble you up and shit out your bones if you let it. Russia under Putin is a criminal state; pro-Russian bias is to be biased in favor of murder and violent theft. You can still be anti-Europe and anti-America without defending immoral thugs. Until that time (if it ever comes) you are intellectually dishonest and morally bankrupt. I think what is most pitiful about you is how you deceive yourself.

It doesn’t sniff of desperation, it sniffs of insanity. “Own goal” is too mild a description for the suicide pact Russia has made with Putin in the name of a hazy nationalistic quasi-ideology (as are all fascist ideologies). This isn’t Russia playing Russian roulette with five empty chambers, it’s Russia drunk and playing with chainsaws and machetes, amputating limbs, and refusing to stop because it still has a few limbs.
