  1. I agree, but you might be better to discuss this in terms of probabilities and think in terms of individual nations in Europe. And we should also understand the conflict as a two-front war, one front being the economic battle being waged with sanctions. The two are enmeshed, of course. So if some nations falter because of the winter and low energy supplies, how will this effect the shooting war in Ukraine? If Germany weakens in her resolve (the economic damage goes much farther than hearing costs for Germany) and begins to bow to Russian pressure, what then? I happen to think that such an effect will not be decisive, but it will make Ukraine’s situation more difficult. I also think that if we are realistic about such possibilities, actions can be taken to shore up nations struggling with the economic side of the war. But nothing is certain, not ever, not in war and not in peace.

Starting with weird assumptions like 2 + 2 = 5 might yield some interesting math that is internally logical, but you’re going to get slapped in the face if you try to use that math to build bridges or conduct a war. If you want to talk about “Putin’s Logic”, you should mention its dream logic. His assumptions weren’t just faulty. They were delusional and likely still are delusional.
