  1. EVERY FUCKING TIME. You specifically mentioned peacetime spenders, but let’s not forget that during Bush’s wartime presidency, the GOP was giving out tax breaks to the wealthy like candy on Halloween. I remember Cheney and Rumsfeld both saying the war “would pay for itself”.

  3. Ron Johnson is fiscally irresponsible. A general round of stimulus checks does two things: 1) it provides emergency aid urgently needed to many people facing eviction, not enough money for food and heat; and 2) It keeps the economy on life support until Pandemic infection rates and deaths go down. The more we can keep the economy going now, the quicker we will get to a recovery. This is exactly the most justified time for deficit spending, because there will be long term damage from a prolonged pandemic recession. Perhaps Johnson still believes the Pandemic can be ignored or wished away. Or, if he wants to work “long and hard” on laser focused “targeted” relief, he should have been putting that together over the past 6 months, instead of demanding it now. If he wants to pool unspent money from the first package and put it to use, he should write/sponsor such a bill, instead of using it as an objection.
