@edwardrichardson5567 the bird strike engine might have still been functioning and providing thrust when they shut down the other engine. Remember, we see the puff of smoke indicating compression stall, but no obvious indication that the engine suffered catastrophic damage. It might have suffered some damage leading to reduced performance and this could have increased pilot panic (why is there something wrong with our (supposedly good) right engine?”). It was this panic that led the pilots to cut short their go-around and immediately land from the wrong direction. If they hadn’t panicked, they could have used a complete go-around to correctly diagnose the problem and/or complete their emergency landing check lists.
