@davidvankainen6711 Why do you think tariffs will apply to services (waste disposal in this case) that Canadians pay U.S. companies to do? We don’t pay for the trash, we get paid for its disposal. It’s not really an industrial input or raw material leading to trade deficits. Seriously, your understanding of trade is deficient. Do you even know the difference between trade deficits and budget deficits? Do you know that reducing the trade deficit won’t reduce the budget deficit?

@robertpalin5878 How does it read? Because it’s already illegal to export such weapons unless the buyer is the government of Mexico. Did the Trump administration agree to crack down on the gun smuggling networks in the U.S.? That would make more sense than merely creating new law that is already covered by existing law. It’s sort of like saying, “As President I am going to ban littering”, which is meaningless as there are already anti-littering laws on the books. However, if the President was promising to take active measures against littering, that would mean something (assuming he followed through on it). If he is taking active measures, it could be either good or bad for legal gun owners. Good: it could decrease the overall demand for firearms in the U.S., which could lead to lower prices for gun buyers. Bad: depending on the active measures, in could lead to creeping infringement of our 2A rights.

I understand the fentanyl smuggling differently. If the traffic is stopped at the southern border, we also want to prevent it from being rerouted through Canada. Maybe the amounts smuggled today are insignificant, but that could change if shipments are stopped at the Southern border. Anyway, the idea of addressing smuggling at both borders isn’t completely irrational. There might be people in the Trump administration that understand tariffs, trade balances, and basic economics. But I suppose that they value loyalty to Trump, their nearness to power, and their jobs over trying to correct the President’s ignorance. The sky is whatever color the boss says it is.
