  1. Interesting. I assumed they were lenses and not reflectors. Some of them looked like fresnel lens, as used on many studio lights for focusing a beam (and changing from flood to spot, depending on distance of source to lens). Thanks for clearing up the terminology.

  3. David Null Yeah, I was going to say Xenon. Not super common in movie lights, but often available at rental houses. When they are used for cinema, they’re mounted on a cherry picker (a snorkel type crane with a platform for workers) or a regular crane and operated remotely. I’ve seen them use to mimic a helicopters searchlight (since it’s more expensive to rent a helicopter) or a downward light from a UFO (MUCH more expensive to rent, I’m told).
