@ne0nmancer they were sailing across the Mediterranean Sea, which is not a lake. The Atlantic is many times its size, and orders of magnitude more difficult. But it’s a misunderstanding to say that Bronze Age craft were simple coastal vessels. That said, there is zero evidence that Bronze Age cultures from the Med. or Europe ever landed on American shores. It’s possible that they did, but if they did, they didn’t leave a trace or imprint. The Norse outpost did leave traces on the land, but apparently no imprint on the indigenous cultures. Significant contact leaves traces and imprints. Trade artifacts and records support the picture of significant interactions throughout the Old World. If any Mediterranean or European culture had significant contact with the New World, we’d see evidence of it.
