  1. I’ve only seen one Ari Aster film, Midsommar. And its initial tone or mood put me into a “Lynch mode” (I didn’t describe it as that at the time, but after watching this video, it strikes me that the terminology fits). I seem to get things from MidSommar that many others do not because apparently they are reacting to it as a straight narrative. The most common reaction/reading I’ve seen to Midsommar is, “The protagonist has been brainwashed by an evil cult”. My primary reading is, “The protagonist successfully navigated a break up with a shitty boyfriend”. Mind you, there is a lot more going on in the film that is of interest, but that’s (to me) the narrative line of the film.
