This is reality. Ideally he would be made to answer for his crimes. Maybe someday he will. But the main thing now is to stop his destruction of Ukraine without escalating the conflict.

@ZER0ZER0SE7EN You’re mostly right, except for involving U.S. soldiers. The potential downsides of that far outweigh any potential upsides. With regard to Putin being cornered, I think he’s already in a corner with his domestic partners. I’m referring to the oligarchs that form the kleptocracy that gives Putin his political power within Russia. This is where the sanctions will have the most effect. Putin has not been able to deliver relief to his cronies from previous sanctions, and was already under pressure. I think his true motivation for invading Ukraine was to placate his kleptocratic partners—the “historic imperative” is all a smokescreen for economic interest. It’s sort of like a criminal gang under a boss. He won’t stay in power unless he can provide them with opportunities for crime. If outside forces are limiting those opportunities, he’d better find new opportunities for plunder. If Putin can take Ukraine, he’s giving his underlings new opportunities to steal. Come to think of it, it’s exactly like a criminal gang under a boss.
